Internally, each retains an enamelled reflector plate, strongly suggesting that the lanterns were originally made for gas illumination before later conversion to electricity.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe heavy iron mounting brackets were specifically designed to fit across the external corner of a building, allowing the lanterns to project dramatically from two adjoining wall faces.
