An animated dramatic pair of Spanish Empire flying heralding dark Angels c.18th Century.
Created in the Spanish Empire, these would have been housed within a church or chapel. They are deftly carved and ebonised, with swirling deep locks, huge outstretched wings. Their gestural faces feature pursing lips and piercing blue bone eyes. Each grasps their own version of a trumpet stylised as a hunting horn from the period.
Centuries later we can only imagine what the Angels were announcing the arrival of!
Their surfaces are deeply coloured and superbly patinated with several repairs consummate with age.
