A pair of wonderfully patinated Handyside Cast Iron Campana Urns c.1870s This stunning pair of garden urns of Campana form. The body decorated with a foliate frieze and inverted egg and dart rim, with satyrs mask lobed loop handles. With a rising fluted circular foot and square raised base standing on associated plinths with wreath motif to one side. The urns retaining their original crusty flaky paint, giving them a perfect patination.
Andrew Handyside bought the Britannia Iron Works in 1848, and manufactured several ornamental vases in classical purity, form and ornament. Receiving distinctions at the Great Exhibition in 1850, the quality of their casts were exceptional and became more exceptional with time.
