A pair of primitive and organically formed French earthenware “salting” vessels or pots c.1840.

The jars are banal, earthy and voluminous. Reminiscent of Japanese pottery - their surface patina consists of innumerable imaginable textures: colours and free gestural marks from the makers’ pottery glazes and repetitive thumb prints along the edges of the pots lips. The very passage of time creating an additional dimension - evocative and unique surfaces of lichens, mosses and wonderful pitting to the ceramic.

This sculptural hand-formed duo epitomise the aesthetics of ‘wabi-sabi’. ‘Wabi’ may be translated as "subdued, austere beauty," while ‘Sabi’ means "rustic patina."

The pair talk together as works of art. Sculptures as striking additions to your interior or garden space.
