A important large hand forged wrought iron ladle created in the 17th Century.
The beautiful primitively formed sculptural object has a rich deeply coloured and patinated scumbled surface from years of use.
The ladle’s handle is unusually decorated and punctuated with vibrant raised copper and brass inlays and elaborate sculpted cuboctahedron forms.
The skilfully made work by a Master craftsman that we clearly see here, illustrates that this would have been a precious piece created as a stand-out object for an important home, person or merchant.
