This rare and important Sundial originating from 'The Rectory at Copgrove', Burton Leonard, North Yorkshire. Carved in Burton Leonard limestone (the Village's limestone) and discussed in world famous ‘Mrs Alfred Gatty's - "The Book of Sundials 1809-1873" One of the foremost writers on Sundials in the 19th Century! Created for the Rectory house and gardens in 1840 - with provenance direct from the Estate. We have number of images showing the Sundial in the Rectory garden during the last 150 years - including an artists rendition and an early photograph.
