Original oil, raw pigment, graphite and gesso painting in antique frame by artist Chloë Holt RCA FRSA.
“The great Frejus earthenware ceramic jar emerges into light from the shadows. ‘Irori’ is the sunken heart in Japan used to heat the home and cook food. Imagine steam and smoke, this sacred space of fire. Here the Frejus Jar (earthenware pottery) is almost invisible forming in the bright light like smoke signals from the stove, it’s graphite marks are the remaining embers. Irori is about the importance of spirit of the home, being grounded and earthed.” (Last image depicts Irori with Shoji available separately)
