A bold and characterful example of 19th-century English folk art, c. 1880.

This wonderful hand-cut metal cockerel weathervane features a striking silhouette with its original bracket turned wooden pole mount in original paint.
Likely made for a barn or rural building, it shows excellent surface patination and signs of age from outdoor use.

Naively yet confidently formed, it represents the charm and practical artistry of the countryside. Sculptural and increasingly sought-after, it’s a fine piece of vernacular design with real presence.

Provenance: From the private collection of an English vernacular Folk Art antique dealer.
