This captivating and emotive work of art portrays the deep contemplative thoughts and feelings of the Madonna.
Hand-carved with incredible skill from French limestone, the surface now revealing hundreds of thousands of molluscs and shells eroded with time outside in the elements of her Parish.
With deeply carved drapes, a life-like appearance and delicately worked symbolism. She more than likely stood as a Virgin of a Portal, her front side highly worn with time, her flat back to the wall - hardly touched. The aged delicate surface adds to her ethereal appearance and beauty.
