A charming French wirework birdcage or small aviary of hexagonal form, dating to the late 19th century. Constructed metal frame and fine hexagonal wire mesh beneath a graceful pagoda-shaped with brass finials on every corner surmounted by a pine finial on its roof.
Raised on its original elegant scrollwork stand, the cage retains its original removable zinc base tray, allowing for ease of cleaning, a practical feature typical of quality French birdcages of the period.
Beautifully weathered with layers of aged white paint and light surface oxidation, it possesses the delicate patina sought after by collectors and garden designers alike. Equally at home indoors or in the garden, it makes a striking architectural feature and is ideal for displaying plants, lit from within with candles or lanterns or for displaying any other decorative objects.
