This enchanting Italian painting portrays a tender moment between a child and a Guardian Angel. Late 18th/Early 19th Century.
The angel, (perhaps from the story of Raphael and Tobias) with flowing robes and expansive, ethereal wings, gently holds the child's hand, leading them along a rugged path. The child, dressed in a vibrant yellow tunic, gazes up with innocence and trust, embodying a sense of safety and protection under the angel's watchful care. A serene backdrop of a river and distant figures adds depth to the scene, evoking a sense of journey and divine guidance.
A charming portrayal of faith, protection and the unseen guardians which guide our paths.
The surface of the oil painting on canvas is beautifully weathered and patinated, yet still retaining much vibrancy of colour. The texture adds to the feeling of timelessness.
