A flamboyant, small but perfectly formed 18th Century Italian Baroque wall mirror c.1740
This mirror is simply fabulous!
The original mercury glass sparkles with fairying - the oval glass is surrounded by carved foliage and flowers, and surmounting it sits an elaborate and decadent pediment of bold and lavish deeply carved scrolling acanthus leaves with a central floral rosette motif. The carving is sumptuous and three-dimensional.
The hand-carved frame is gessoed with red oxide based the overlaid with gold leaf water gilding which captures and reflects light at so many angles.
