A finely rendered 18th-century Northern Italian oil painting of an Aristocrat or Princess.

The painting is worn to a darkly mysterious patination, yet the depiction of her face shows exceptional skill and attention to detail. Her delicate features are beautifully captured, from the soft blush of her cheeks to the intricate highlights in her hair, and the shimmering rendition of her crown and jewellery.

The artist’s mastery is evident giving the sitter an arresting, life-like quality.

Interestingly, the painting is housed in its original papier-mâché frame Bolognese frame, a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. The frame’s intricate layered scrollwork design, characteristic of the Bolognese style, adds a layer of ornate sophistication, while its aged patina enhances the historical charm of the piece.

Together, the painting and frame offer a harmonious glimpse into the elegance and refinement of 18th-century Italian life and artistry, making this a highly desirable addition to any fine art or antique collection.

Previously held in a private collection in Verona.
