An elegant and magical very early French Régence period mirror c.1730. (The Régence (French pronunciation: Regency) was the period in French history between 1715 and 1723.) This large gilded mirror still retains its original mercury glass, now foxed with centuries of age, and even its original back. The gilding is soft, luminous and time-worn over its’ hand-carved wooden gilded frame. With opulent giltwood scrolls and leaves, three pierced mirrors and a central floral reserve flanked with elaborate foliate movement. The mirror glass is absolutely beautiful and reflects light only as mirror of its age can. Wear appropriate for age.
