A wonderful example of a Late 19th/ Early 20th Century English Water Barrow from a Yorkshire Country House Estate.

In the Victorian era, such garden water barrows were used to water plants and gardens, especially in large estates or private gardens where direct access to water sources might be limited.

Featuring a large, cylindrical barrel mounted on a wrought iron frame with sturdy wheels. The barrel was filled with water from a central source, such as a rainwater tank or a well, and then wheeled around the garden to where it was needed.

As modern irrigation systems and garden hoses became more widespread in the 20th century, the use of these traditional water barrows became less common.
Today, as well as its historical appeal the water barrow is a super decorative item in your garden or to be preserved in a historical collection.
