A fine lead Egyptian Revival style Sphinx on plinth. Created in the Early 20th Century.
This elegant piece is inspired by the work and drawings of Thomas Hope (1769-1831) in his ‘Household Furniture and Interior Decoration’ publication. Renowned for his influence in interior design, particularly his ‘Egyptian Room’ within his home in Duchess Street, Portland Place, London.
Hope’s ornamented designs defined Regency interior fashions, transforming British aesthetic into modern yet classical.
The heavy lead Sphinx has life-like articulation of form, oozing luxury.
With composite stone plinth.
