This sublime terracotta olive oil storage jar from Impruneta, Florence, dates back to the 17th century and embodies classical elegance. Featuring a slightly elongated Ovid form, the jar is adorned with two gracefully shaped handles and an inner red ochre glaze. Its surface, dappled with lichen, showcases the rich coloured patina of time, adding to its unique texture and character.
The highly sought-after world famous Tuscan terracotta is produced in Impruneta, an ancient town a little south of Florence, Italy. The tradition of making terracotta in this area goes back to the 14th century.
The jar evokes the warmth of the Mediterranean, perfect for enhancing an Italian-inspired garden or a traditional English formal garden. It can be displayed as a striking stand-alone feature or as part of a cluster, offering a captivating sculptural statement.
