A wonderful pair of Late Baroque stone lions on low plinths with remnants of original polychrome. c.1730. Carved from the unique Belgian Blue Stone ‘Petit Granit-Pierre Bleue de Belgique’ a natural stone from the region of Soignies. Originally from a Castle in Belgium, their extravagant lion features and flowing locks hark back to Charles I & II through to William of Orange, William III of England and the Royalist Cause. Size per lion.
