A tremendous huge scale pair of English-made Mastiff Guardian or Gatekeeper dogs with ornate bronze collars. Late 20th Century.
Truly lifelike, in form and size. Having the perfect amount of surface patination and lichen.
Rendered in a unique hand-carved finished Bath Stone composite.
Each Mastiff is different, making them even more special.
The male and female dogs sit in naturalistic pose, and are adorned with an ornamental solid bronze collar displaying their names ‘SEMPER’(always) and ‘VIGILANS’(watchful).
The dogs are very rare, being one of the first pairs ever created of less than 200 pairs made by an individual UK based craftsman.
The colossal Mastiff belongs to an ancient canine clan dating back 3,000 years. Massively powerful and heavy-boned, courageous and prodigiously strong. They are docile and dignified, but also a formidable protector for those they hold dear. Hence historically they have been guard dogs, protecting homes, property and their owners.
