A striking and rare pair of oversized Campana Urns from the Andrew Handyside Foundry in Derby. Created c.1880
In exceptional condition. Featuring lobed Satyrs faces and acanthus leaf foliate curling scroll work in original flaking paint. The paint is a mixture of white, sand and verdigris green colours - layers of incredible patina.
Andrew Handyside bought the Britannia Iron Works in 1848, and manufactured several ornamental vases in classical purity, form and ornament. Receiving distinctions at the Great Exhibition in 1850, the quality of their casts were exceptional and became more exceptional with time.
It is rare to find such large scale and matching pairs of these urns.
