A finely cast group of three freestanding bronze cranes, each individually modelled with slender legs, finely detailed plumage and elegantly arched necks. Conceived purely as garden sculpture rather than fountains, the group has a particularly graceful sense of movement when arranged together.
The bronzes draw clear influence from Japanese Meiji-period decorative arts, where cranes were celebrated as symbols of longevity, good fortune and harmony. Their differing poses give the group a natural, almost conversational quality, while the surfaces have weathered beautifully to varied green and brown patination that sits especially well amongst planting.
