This rare and finely crafted 17th-century Italian collector’s cabinet is a striking example of Baroque artistry in miniature form. Of diminutive proportions, the cabinet is ebonised and richly inlaid with engraved ivory panels. A recessed bank of small drawers surrounds a central cupboard, each drawer front meticulously decorated with hunting and pastoral scenes rendered in engraved ivory. The central door features a classical depiction of Mars, the Roman god of war.
The cabinet sits atop a later, custom-made stand, offering elevation and presence while preserving the integrity of the original piece. A beautiful fusion of utility and ornament, this cabinet would make a distinguished addition to any collection of early European decorative arts.
